Inactive Licenses, Resignations & Reinstatements
Inactive Licenses
Individuals can hold an inactive license for one year provided that you are not working at any position that does not require RIBO licensing. In order to hold an inactive license for the one year period you must be unemployed (any employment) and must renew your license at renewal time and must have completed your continuing education hours to renew as inactive. Inactive period would start the date your brokerage removes sponsorship.
Resigning your License
At the end of the one year inactive period or if you have gained employment that does not require a RIBO license within your inactive period, you would be required to resign the license by emailing licensing@ribo.com. Please confirm the effective date you wish to resign, and we will confirm back once completed.
License Reinstatement
Please note that once you resign a license you have two years to reinstate the license without having to rewrite the exam provided you have secured employment with a RIBO registered Member Firm and provide RIBO with the required fees and documentation, which must include a current dated Criminal Record Verification (dated within 60 days of the date RIBO receives the request for reinstatement). Please email licensing@ribo.com to learn about your license reinstatement requirements.
Other option is resigning the license effective the date you leave brokerage, which would give you a two year period to reinstate without having to rewrite (no fees would be required at renewal time for this option). Also note, that it is a condition of licensing to keep up to date with the continuing education requirements and we will require proof of completion before reinstatement can be processed.
